FAQ
Billing, security, and compliance questions
What counts as a "verification"?
Each time a client completes the identity verification process — document capture, biometric scan, and AI analysis — that counts as one verification. PEP declaration and KYC checks within the same session are included at no additional cost.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. Upgrades and downgrades both take effect immediately, and your account is prorated automatically for the remaining billing period. You can change plans from the billing settings page at any time.
What happens if I exceed my monthly verification limit?
On paid plans, verifications above your included limit are billed at a per-verification overage rate (C$2.50 for Professional, C$2.00 for Business). On the Free plan, verifications are blocked at the limit — upgrade anytime to continue.
Does the Free plan require a credit card?
No credit card is required for the Free plan. You get 50 verifications per month with document capture and biometric matching. A card is only needed if you use pay-as-you-go steps like AML/PEP screening.
Do unused verifications roll over?
No. Verification allocations reset at the start of each billing cycle and do not roll over.
What's included in the compliance report?
The compliance report includes the document authenticity result, biometric match score, AI fraud detection score, a full audit trail with timestamps and IP, and a risk rating. It's formatted for regulatory file storage.
Can Free / Starter customers use AML/PEP screening?
Yes. AML/PEP screening (and other paid add-on steps) are available on any plan, including Free. Add a payment method in Settings → Billing and you will be charged per lookup — no plan upgrade required. This lets you pay only for what you use.
How are pay-as-you-go add-on steps billed?
Pay-as-you-go steps — like AML/PEP screening — are charged per request at a flat rate (C$6.75 for AML, credit report coming soon). The charge appears on your next invoice alongside your subscription. Only successfully completed steps are billed.
What is Matter Planner?
Matter Planner is an optional add-on that brings matter management directly into Outlook and Gmail. It lets your team create matters, capture participants, track critical dates, and launch identity verifications — without leaving their inbox. Matter Planner is available on Professional, Business, and Enterprise plans.
Can I add Matter Planner to any plan?
Matter Planner is available as an add-on on Professional (C$79/mo) and Business (C$149/mo) plans. Enterprise customers get Matter Planner included at no additional cost. Free plan users get a trial with up to 3 active matters (portal only, no email add-on).
Is there a sandbox environment for API testing?
A sandbox environment with test document sets is on our near-term roadmap. In the meantime, Professional+ plans include full API access with comprehensive documentation and webhook testing. Contact us for integration support.
Where is verification data stored?
All verification data is processed and stored on SOC 2-certified infrastructure. Document images and biometric data are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). Access is governed by strict role-based controls, and key administrative and billing actions are recorded in an audit log.
Is Athenty SOC 2 certified?
SOC 2 Type II certification is on our compliance roadmap. Today, we operate on SOC 2-certified infrastructure, encrypt all data at rest and in transit, maintain a full audit trail, and are aligned with PIPEDA and FINTRAC requirements.
Can I get a compliance letter for my regulator?
Yes. On Business and Enterprise plans, we provide a signed compliance letter detailing our security controls, data handling practices, and regulatory alignment for your firm's due diligence or audit requirements. Contact compliance@athenty.com.
What happens if a verification fails?
Failed verifications include a detailed reason (document quality, biometric mismatch, document expiry, etc.) in the verification report. You can re-send the verification invite to the same client at no additional cost — only completed verifications count against your limit.
